Becoming a Foster
What is fostering?
Fostering is a great way to help puppies by sharing your home on a temporary basis. We supply you with all the supplies you need, you supply the love and cuddles!
Once rescued, our pups stay in a family home (not a shelter facility) until they are adopted. There they will be loved, cared for, learn basic obedience, and experience what it means to be part of a family.
Our foster families help with socialising the puppy and we provide support and advice. A foster home can literally be the difference between life and death for a puppy.
What do I need?
• Patience – Your young puppy may not be toilet trained, and even older puppies sometimes have the odd accident, so patience and understanding that your puppy is still learning and growing is a must.
• Commitment – Good foster homes are hard to come by! Although we can accommodate changes in your circumstances, not only can it sometimes be difficult to find a new foster home, it can also be quite unsettling for a puppy to be moved from home to home, so we prefer that they stay in the same foster home until adoption.
• Transportation – Your puppy will need you to take them to vet appointments, and any training or daycare if applicable.
• Security – A safe, fenced, secure section to keep the puppies safe (and your landlord’s permission if you rent!)
• Time – Your puppy will need exercise, playtime, training and guidance to learn basic obedience. Our younger pups need a home where someone is home for most of the day.
• A big heart – Your puppy needs cuddles, love and fun!!!
What about supplies?
Your puppy will need a crate, bedding, bowls, collar, lead, toys, food, flea & worm treatment – but don’t worry, we will provide everything you’ll need.
How long will I foster the puppy for?
We can’t give you an accurate idea of how long your foster pup will be in your home, but it could be as little as a week to several months.
Please take the time to consider if you have the time, energy and determination to help a puppy who really needs it. The experience is so rewarding & you can literally be a life-saver!
